Ordering a 5 yard casual kilt is a great way to support Clan Logan Society International Inc.
In April of 2023, Clan Logan Society International, Inc. embarked upon a tartan contest Anyone who was a member of the society and interested in submitting a tartan for vote sent in submissions for the contest. In August of 2023, the multitude of tartans were presented to the Board of Directors and voted upon. The winner was announced at Estes Park Highland Games in September of 2023. The winning tartan was designed by J. Kevin Logan and was subsequently registered the the Scottish Tartan Authority. The selection of threads and the weaving process was set up and we are happy to say that this new tartan is available for purchase – until we run out of fabric!!
Some have asked why the society decided to weave a tartan when there is already a Logan tartan for wearing – in fact there is a modern, ancient and weathered version. It was the opinion that having one that was solely identified as belonging to the Clan Logan Society would set them apart from the current Logan tartan which is also worn by Clan MacLennan.
Explanation of Difference between 5 yard and 8 yard kilts —
The 5 yard kilt is a great starter kilt and prior to the end of the nineteen century was the normal wear for a kilt (along with the box pleat kilt). Today, the 5 yard kilt is referred to as Casual wear. The 8 yard kilt is referred to as formal wear. A 5 yard kilt has shallower pleats so it does not work so well for someone with hips over 46 inches – we would then suggest adding more fabric or going with an 8 yard kilt. Our kilts, if properly kept and treated, will last a lifetime. They are fully canvas lined around the waist with 3 buckles to ensure an excellent fit. All kilts are made in Glasgow, Scotland. Each kilt is machine stitched and will take 8 to 10 weeks to be completed.
Basic measurements needed are waist – taken at the belly button; hip measurement taken at broadest area; length taken while kneeling from belly button to floor; and height. We obviously want your kilt to look it’s best and would like to speak to you personally about taking the measurements if you have any questions. We also offer Zoom options if you are not in California.
There are options for payment plans on our kilts with half down at time of ordering and balance due when kilt is completed.
Scottish Treasures was selected by Clan Logan Society to handle and manage all of the orders pertaining to the new tartan. After administrative costs, the funds are then given to the society to use for their various projects.
